Back to school time is finally upon us, and that means getting back into our morning routines. After a nice, long summer of flexibility and freedom, we are back to waking up early and getting these kids out the door so we can have 6 hours of silence, for the most part! Today I am sharing my FREE before-school routine for kids printable with you in hopes that you get back into the swing of things quickly and easily. Enjoy!
Morning Routine For Students
If you are anything like me, when I have a plan or a system in place starting the night before a school morning, I am 100% more prepared than if I would have gone in blind. If we wake up late or hadn’t prepared anything the night before, then I am a drill sergeant, shoving breakfast in mouths and pushing them out the door, driving like a mad woman to get them to school on time.
Don’t be like me.
The night before sets up my morning so much better, and here’s what I try my best to do;
- Pick out clothes
- Pack lunches and stick them in the fridge
- Fill up their water bottles and put them in the fridge
- Prep breakfast ahead of time
- Have backpacks packed and ready by the front door
By the time morning comes, we can just check off our list and have a smoother time. But nighttime preparations don’t always happen, so having a morning checklist is super helpful.

I wanted to create a printable that was going to be very useful when you are getting your kiddos ready for school and out the door. This printable is perfect to laminate and keep on your fridge for easy access.
Before-School Morning Printable
Before School Checklist Items
- Get Dressed- Something that really helps me is if we pick out their outfits the night before and drape them over their chairs when they come in for breakfast.
- Shower- Depending on if they are a night shower fan or morning, this is a definite task to check off.
- Morning Chores- Nothing major, but filling dog bowls, taking out the trash, or simply putting their pj’s in the laundry hamper are all considered.
- Make Bed- This is a major struggle in our house, so if they do it a couple of times a week, I count that as a win.
- Brush Teeth + Hair- Keep a caddy by the kitchen table that has everything they need to get their hair ready and easily brush their teeth.
- Deodorant- Say no more.
- Grab Waterbottles- We like to pop them in the fridge next to their lunchboxes the night before.
- Put Shoes On- We have a large wicker basket up front that we can easily throw shoes into
- Grab Sweater/Jacket- Depending on where you live you may or may not need this. We’re in AZ and so the seasons are drastically different. Always nice to tuck one in their backpacks just in case.
- Lunch in Backpack- Grab their lunch boxes and put those bad boys in their backpacks.
- Grab Any Sports Gear- This is a good time to make sure they have everything they need.
- Homework in Backpack- Don’t forget that homework! We’re finally in fourth grade and the REAL homework begins.
- Take medicine/vitamins- This is easy to set up the night before as well.
- Eat Breakfast- Having a few easy options on hand is perfect.
- Plate in the sink- The last thing we do is make sure those breakfast dishes are in the sink.
I hope this printable brings you a bit of relief in the mornings! Make sure and tag me on IG when you use it so I can see. I love watching my printables and systems working for other people, and not just myself.
And if I haven’t said it already, “May the morning school routine be ever in your favor”.
