Cactus pillow on bed with black writing

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted a guest room in our home. In our first house, we had a random room with a bed in it filled with clutter, our second home had no room at all for a guest room (plus all of our family lived 3 minutes away), and now I finally have one!! Granted, it’s shared by my craft area BUT it is big enough and so beautiful with all the natural light. When we moved in 2018, and our first guest stayed with us, it was nowhere near what I wanted it to be… Until now!!!! If you’d like to read up on our travels here to Tucson, head on over to my One Year of Tucson Life post.

Welcome Basket For Your Guests

I knew I wanted to make our guests feel at home when they came to stay, so I wanted to get a welcome basket all set up for them and finish off the bedding (sometimes you just NEED an accent pillow, ok?). So I headed off to Walmart in search of some fun items to spruce up the space. And BOY, did I hit the jackpot.

First, I needed a basket. Now, I had quite a few to pick from but didn’t want to pay the prices. I grabbed two options and decided to go with the rectangle one. Next, I hit up the toiletries section. I love this area for the prices. For your guest, you don’t need full-sized options unless they are staying for a month (I would pass out if I had a guest that long), so these items are perfect. And everything is $2 and under!! I grabbed a few of the items I would have definitely forgotten to pack and added them to my basket. Here are a few pieces that were included:

  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Deoderant
  • Razor
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Toothpaste
  • Moisturizer
Welcome basket full of products for your guest

Beautiful and Cozy Bedding

Next, was bedding. Last year I purchased the sheets and quilt from Walmart, but it was always lacking an accent pillow. Finally, I found one that is perfect, especially since we live in Tucson!! The cacti are so cute, and it paired well with the blue pillowcases too

Here are a few other super adorable accent pillows from Walmart. Which one is your favorite?

Added Touches To Make Them Feel Welcome

Another courtesy you could offer your guests is a place that has your wifi password displayed, a place to keep their keys and such, charger and a laundry hamper is always a nice touch. They might not be staying forever, but having a designated spot for their dirty clothing is helpful. You could even leave laundry soap up in their room and they can bring it when or if they do laundry. Always try and think about what needs they may have so they don’t feel like a burden. A few other options I think are so nice are:

  • Fresh towels in the bathroom
  • Clothing rack with hangers so they can hang some items
  • Stool for them to put their luggage
  • Chair for them to sit and put on their shoes, or drape a blanket over if they get cold

I really hope this has been helpful, especially with the holidays coming up. Guests will always pop up when it’s least expected, so having these items on hand, ready to go is one less thing you’ll have to stress over! Do you have a guest room?
