Visiting Vineyards With Arizona Winery Tours

I want to thank Karen with Arizona Winery Tours for gifting me this tour. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.

If you are anything like me, you stop and say, “Arizona has wineries?!” And the answer is Yes!! I couldn’t believe it when I first heard of Arizona Winery Tours, but I’m sure glad I found them. I set off for a day of wine tasting and beautiful wine country with Karen, from Arizona Winery Tours and loved every minute of it.

How Arizona Winery Tours Began

“I decided to start this business in 2014 when my youngest child was ready for school and I was ready to head back into the workforce. At that time, there wasn’t a company in Tucson offering this type of service. Wine tasters were driving themselves back and forth to the vineyards. At least they were in the southern part of the state.

So along with my husband and little brother we set to work to create our memorable wine tour experience. We found just the right van and we were off. We decided to offer two types of tours, our join-in tour where you purchase the number of seats you need and hop on the van with other tasters or our private tour where you rent the entire van for a more personal touch.

In 2018 we purchased Arizona Winery Tours and merged our two companies together and took on their name. We bring our expertise to you so you can enjoy a smooth event with no hassles and we take care of all the details. We are one of the few companies with an all-inclusive tour!”- Karen Hinderberger, Owner

Two black tour buses

Visiting Vineyards With Arizona Winery Tours

Probably one of the best things about your tour is transportation. They will pick you up AND drop you right back off when it’s all done if you have a party of 4 or more. That way you don’t have to worry about limiting how much you enjoy yourself. I felt really important when that beautiful bus pulled up to the address to whisk us away for the day.

With everything happening with Covid, I felt really safe on board. They clean each bus prior to each tour, the driver wears a mask the whole time and there is plenty of room in between each party. Masks are mandatory for guests, and everyone was wearing them that day. Especially if the masks are wine-themed, like these beautiful ones, who wouldn’t want to wear one?

Refreshing Tastings at the Three Wineries

With your tour, you get to visit 3 wineries. They have a vast majority of wineries that they work with so if you have one in mind, just let them know when you schedule. When I went, we visited Callaghan, Deep Sky, and AZ Hops & Vines. I thought this amount of tastings at each vineyard was perfect! I have taken some tours before where you are given way too much, too fast, that you can’t truly enjoy the rest of the tour. This amount was wonderful.

Callaghan Vineyards

When we got to Callaghan Vineyards, we received a list of the different wines they offer. We got to pick 6 different kinds and they bring it to you on a plate in individual plastic cups. With your tour, you receive a complimentary tasting glass so I poured each tasting in one at a time. I made sure to mark which ones I liked and didn’t. After you are done, feel free to head inside the shop and purchase bottles. The tastings are covered in your ticket price but if you want to buy any bottles, that will be out of pocket.

We sat outside under a large covered patio and got to enjoy the sounds and the vineyards that ran along the side of the shop. Such a beautiful backdrop for photos and so easy to just relax!

Deep Sky Vineyards

When we got to Deep Sky, we went up to the counter and they poured each tasting into your glass. They asked that you wear a mask up to the counter, but you didn’t need to while you were sitting and relaxing. They also offered six tastings and each one was better than the last.

I also purchased their homemade goat cheese and it was absolutely delicious. They served it with Fritos for a fun twist. I highly recommend that as a snack option. At the second vineyard is where lunch is served. With your ticket, you choose your lunch option from a list of 6 different choices. It was so nice to just sit and eat and enjoy the scenery.

AZ Hops & Vines

At the last winery, they were having a festival! They had live music, grape stomping, and food trucks. This winery not only has wine but also beer. They also sold these delicious wine slushies that had an entire bottle of wine in them for $30 and they were worth every penny! Absolutely delicious and refreshing. At AZ Hops & Vines, they only do tastings in the morning so by the afternoon, they were only selling by the glass or other options as well.

If you choose this vineyard to go to, make sure to go there first! They had you wear your mask up to the counter like the last one, but after that, you didn’t have to wear it.

We sat and enjoyed the music, wine, and people watched. So many women came dressed in white to go stomp grapes! I’m assuming it’s so they had a tie-dye effect on the dress when they left. If you do go, you HAVE to stop into the bathroom. It is so colorful and every inch of wall space was covered in local art. It was definitely worth it to go there

After we were done, we loaded back onto the bus, quite a bit louder than when we all started, and make the ride back home. There are complimentary waters and snacks on board as well which is a nice touch! You can also bring wine and beer on board while you are driving which is always a nice option.
