If you know me, you know I’m either drinking wine, Dr. Pepper, or coffee. And with the holiday season right around the corner, I couldn’t wait to share with you my homemade maple brown sugar coffee creamer. Being able to make it myself and have it on hand all the time, makes my coffee addiction even more enjoyable.

And what better way to enjoy homemade coffee creamer than with heavy cream and all the sweetness? In the second batch I made, I used way too much sugar, so I definitely learned from my mistakes and wanted to save you the toothache as well. And the best homemade coffee creamer is even simpler than you’d think.

Coffee Creamer Recipe Ingredients

  • Water– This will be the base of your creamer recipe, and what helps dissolve the brown sugar.
  • Brown Sugar– One of my favorite baking ingredients because it is so versatile. You can swap it out for white if you choose to.
  • Maple Donut syrup– This syrup I picked up from Home Goods last year, and had to use again.
  • Cinnamon– One of the best spices for baking. It is warm and sweet all at the same time.
  • Salt– This helps balance out the sweetness from the sugar and syrup.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream– This makes this recipe creamy and delicious. You can use a different type of milk if this one bothers your stomach.

Why Heavy Cream?

Heavy cream is much thicker than plain milk, or even half and half. It will give you more creamer, and you’ll have to use less in your coffee.

How To Make Coffee Creamer

Before you even begin, gather your ingredients for easy access. The worst is realizing you are out of something when your water is boiling.

Next, you’ll get started and follow the steps till the end. Make sure to note any changes you’d like to make as you go. Maybe a different flavor next time, or more of something else.

Make sure you’ve got your storage container, and you are ready to get started.

  1. Boil 2 cups of water over medium heat. Once boiling, add your brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
  2. Add in the rest of your ingredients, besides the cream. Stir to combine.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in heavy cream until combined.
  4. Pour into container. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, and shake well before use.

How To Store Homemade Creamer

After you’ve made your delicious creamer, now it’s time to store it properly and enjoy it in your next cup of coffee.

  • Add it to a glass mason jar
  • Reuse an empty creamer bottle
  • Repurpose an empty sauce jar with a lid

How To Use Coffee Creamer

The best way is straight into a delicious cup of steaming hot coffee, or a refreshing glass of iced coffee. There are so many different flavors and variations out there.

Another way to use coffee creamer is in oatmeal or overnight oats. This recipe is creamy and sweet from the rich brown sugar, so it would go so well with a hot bowl.

  • OatmealBreakfast is a favorite meal of mine, and oatmeal is a staple menu item in our house. Pour a bit over the top of your oats and you are golden.
  • Hot or Iced Coffee– Coffee is a favorite beverage of mine, but I sometimes wonder if it’s really the creamer I love! Either way, I enjoy them both. Dunkin’ Donuts is a favorite for its fall menu as well.

Expert Tips

  • If you’d like a little bit more, add an extra cup of water and heavy cream. This will make double the amount.
  • You can swap out the syrup for any you’d like. I also add pumpkin into mine for a fall-time festive flavor.
  • Save an old creamer container. This works as the perfect storage container in your fridge.
  • Make this for Christmas gifts. Homemade coffee creamer would be the perfect gift to give.
  • Can be made sugar-free or low sugar. This recipe is so versatile and can be made for any dietary restriction.
What flavors can you use?

The possibilities are endless. You can make it according to the season, certain dietary restrictions, and the type of milk used. There are so many ways. You can even change the color!

What is the key ingredient in coffee creamer?

The cream is the base. It gives it texture and consistency.

Is it cheaper to make your own?

This depends on the brand you normally like to buy, but yes. You can buy all the ingredients cheap and in bulk, so you can make a larger amount. It is worth it completely.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil, and once boiling, add your sugar.
  2. Stir until sugar has dissolved.
  3. Add cinnamon, salt, and syrup to sugar water and stir until combined.
  4. Remove from the heat and slowly stir in heavy whipping cream.
  5. Let cool and add to a storage container.

Notes

You can substitute for whatever milk you use. Heavy cream is the thickest and will make it the creamiest.

Try different flavors of syrup in this for a festive twist. Try a dollop of pumpkin puree in there for the season.

You can swap out brown sugar for white. Brown sugar has more flavor to it, but feel free.

Shake well before use. It tends to separate if not shaken well.
