Does your Kitchen Pantry seem to always get chaotic during the day? Looking for easy Kitchen Pantry Organization Ideas? I will show you how we have our Pantry organized and functional for everyone in our family. These 5 Steps to an Organized Pantry will set you up for success.

If you know me, then you know I love to be organized. Lord knows I’m not the cleanest person in the world, but our home always has systems. One of my favorites is our pantry. Since we use it every day it can get a bit hectic. Here is how I get it back in order without losing my ever-loving mind.

Pantry Organization Refresh

If you are anything like my husband, when you walk into your kitchen and see the pantry has blown up and is spread over every countertop, you freak out a bit. But once everything is back in and working better, you appreciate it so much more. Or, if you are anything like me, no canned good or box of pasta is safe! That’s how I am, and I LOVE refreshing our kitchen pantry! I look forward to this task every 6 months or so because it gives me the chance to fully refresh the space and give it a good old fashion wipe down.

Today I am sharing with you my 5 steps to an organized pantry, and I hope it offers some suggestions and even some relief when it comes to organizing yours. Let’s get started!

For a bit more organization inspiration, here are some more posts dedicated to all things organizing!

Step 1: Take EVERYTHING out

The only way to truly see all that you have and exactly how much space is available is by removing every last thing in your pantry (even your heavy KitchenAid mixer and appliances). This also gives you a chance to give the space a good wipe down and sweep. I always love doing this, because then nothing gets in the way of cleaning it and I love the smell of a freshly sprayed pantry; so fresh and so clean. When I take everything out, I like to put it on all of our counters, so when I’m putting things back I can work my way around the kitchen until it’s finished.

Step 2: Purge

This step is SO important. This is the time to go through everything and throw out expired foods, items you haven’t touched in the last 6 months OR 6 years, and maybe some items you bought on a whim but won’t actually use. You can either throw them out OR donate them to a food bank or shelters in your area.

Step 3: Inventory

Now, this is not mandatory and not everyone cares to do this, but I have found that writing out everything you have on hand helps to remember the items you might not know you have. It also gives you a good idea of exactly how much of that item is in there and when they all expire. Then you can take a quick glance at the list next time you meal plan and come up with new ideas. Step 4: Group & Plan

Now that everything is purged and inventoried, you can get to grouping and planning. I like to group like items together, eliminate as many boxes as I can, and figure out exactly where I’m going to put them back in the pantry. Zones are how my pantry is organized and it really helps to know exactly where things are when you head in for a snack. Our zones are:

  • Snacks
  • Breakfast
  • Health
  • Meal Prep
  • Paper Goods
  • Baking
  • Drinks
  • Overflow

If you are looking for some good quality pantry storage options, my favorite places to shop are:

Step 5: Put Everything Back

Now that everything is purged, grouped, and inventoried, it’s time to put everything back and finalize how you want it to look. This is my favorite part because you get to see all your hard work pay off! It takes me a couple of tries to really get things in their proper place and see how it will flow. Now it’s time to step back and marvel at all your progress and dedication. You did it!! Which is your favorite part? Do you have a section in your pantry that brings you the most joy? I’d love to know down below so make sure to comment and let me know.
