First of all, I can’t believe we’ve hit the one year mark! We always talked about moving back if, after 6 months we weren’t loving it. But needless to say, we do. Still, I can’t believe we have been living in Tucson for one whole year.
I remember it like it was yesterday, Chris saying he was ready to look for a new job in a different state. I was completely against it, because we have so much family back in Reno. But the more and more I prayed about it and researched the idea, the more I was OK with it. I had always said I would go wherever he wanted because he is my husband. He deserves to live out his dreams and passions. But boy, was I nervous.
I was nervous about letting our loved ones, especially my mother (I am the favorite after all), down and disappointing everyone. Nervous about finding new friends and how it would affect the kiddos. I was also worried about a new city with new terrain and weather. But honestly, it all melted away when I heard a line out of a song in The Greatest Showman, “A Million Dreams”.
However big, however small, let me be part of it all; share your dreams with me. You may be right, you may be wrong, but say that you’ll bring me along, to the world you see.
I absolutely love that song, and once I heard it and let that line sink in, I knew this was way bigger then either of us. It was a chance to start our own lives, with our own opinions. To let the kiddos try new experiences and see things they may have otherwise never seen. Seeing how easily they adjusted to Tucson life, made it even easier.
Now, I wont tell you it hasn’t been tough. Not seeing our family anytime we want, letting the cousins come over for a sleep over on a whim or celebrating Christmas with all of our loved ones and having a babysitter on call. Because it definitely has been a challenge. It’s challenged us to really depend On each other more then our family and to know its OK if we don’t get a date night every week, because when it does happen we put so much more effort into it. We’ve learned how to be a family of four, and not a family of 30.
Don’t get me wrong, the wildlife and hot temps make it a little hard to be outside all of the time, but I LOVE the heat and it has forced us to find new activities to do together that we might not have thought of otherwise.
