DIY Small Linen Closet
For me, if things don’t have a place, I am very out of sorts and can’t focus. This was the case for our small built-in linen closet/pool towel cabinet. This is the place that holds our towels and bathing suits. But it is so narrow and small that things kept falling out and no one could ever find anything (not very calming, huh?). Cue the stress vein popping out of my forehead. I had finally had ENOUGH and decided to nip that problem right in the bud (is that the expression?).
Our built-in linen closet is very much a DIY situation. But with the help of some sturdy bins and containers, your small linen closet will feel so much bigger than before. When everything has a space, it seems much more spacious.
Calming Linen Closet Bins + Containers
The first step was to find bins that would fit the odd-shaped space. And of course, I didn’t measure first and just winged it. That’s usually what works best for me and my thinking process. We went to Target for a few ‘essentials’ and walked by these bins on the way out. They were perfect and I crossed my fingers in hopes that they would fit in my small linen closet. When I got home, I yanked everything out of that space, rearranged a few items that I needed to and put them inside PRAYING they fit, and closed the door (and my eyes) slowly.
Organizing a Linen Closet
THEY FIT PERFECTLY!!! I was shocked that it worked out the way that it did. Now it was time to put everything in its own designated bin. I bought four and have two shelves so they worked great. One bin for:
- Kid’s bathing suits
- Adult bathing suits
- Bath towels
- Suit coverups + random swimming necessities
Now everything has space, and I can breathe normally. It feels so good when I’m doing laundry, and I can put them all away in just a couple of seconds, no shoving needed.
A tip I have for you is to shop your home before you go out and buy new containers. Odds are, you probably have something somewhere you can use first, and save yourself some money. I, however, did not. So I’m happy that they were on clearance!!! Best $8 dollars I ever spent.
Do you have a space that makes you happy when you look at it or go to put something away? I love how wonderfully this space works for our family now, and even our kiddos can put their items where they belong. Happy home, happy mom, happy life!! I hope this gave you some motivation to tackle a stubborn spot in your home. Let me know down below which area in your home you are excited to organize.
