Ever walk into your closet full of amazing clothes, and feel you have nothing to wear? Do you buy a new top but have no idea what to wear with it? These Super Simple Wardrobe Recipes will take the question out of what to pair together, and give you the inspiration you are needing.

This post has been updated from its original posting date of May 3, 2019. It has brand new links and references.

If you are like me, you tend to walk into your happily messy closet, look at your clothes… and walk right back out. I tend to get so overwhelmed that I just grab an old t-shirt and call it good. Starting with decluttering and saying goodbye to my old clothing is a good start, but then I just get bored. Hopefully, I can shed some light on the matter, and offer you some hope with these Simple Wardrobe Recipes!! For some more outfit inspiration, make sure to check out my Target Anniversary Sale post.

Simple Capsule Wardrobe Inspiration

I follow Erin, over at Cotton Stem (I’ve linked her site, so go check her out), and she preaches about capsule wardrobes and especially seasonal ones, like summer capsule wardrobes, and how amazing they are. Granted, she is not wrong and they are a great concept. But I get to the point where I have no idea where to go from there. What should I pair with what or what looks best with those shorts? The questions continue on and on.

Thankfully, she shared the idea of Outfit Recipes and I was blown away by how smart it is!! But I still can’t take any credit for it since it is all her, BUT I can pull inspiration from her. I can’t wait to show you guys how I see an outfit recipe in my head.

I have gathered 6 of my favorite outfits from my capsule wardrobe inspiration and pieced them together so you have an idea of what to do with your life (you are most welcome). My idea going into this was to stick with green, white, brown, and jeans. These colors are the perfect transitional palette from a summer capsule wardrobe to Fall, especially with the neutrals.

I really wanted all of the outfits to flow easily together. Also, I will do my best to link everything, and if I can’t find the exact item, I will have something similar!! Now, without further ado (is that even the correct spelling?!), here are my Simple Wardrobe Recipes.

Recipe #1:

White: Skinny Jeans- I got these bad boys at Costco (I found them for $5 cheaper than I paid) and I love them. They are a tad bit see-through so make sure you leave your neon undies in the drawer. But they are pretty durable, so I love that (especially with being a mama). *I am a size 8/29 in these jeans*.

Jean: Sonoma Jean Jacket- This is from the goodwill pile a few years ago, but I did link a similar style for you. I ended up donating it because it was just TOO small, So I traded it in for the one from Target linked above, and it is so comfortable. I love that the wash is a bit darker and goes with just about anything!

Green: Tie Shirt from TJMaxx so the shirt is not available, but this tank is even better!! I love the ruffles around the collar and how elegant it is; it is a definite church top. Although I couldn’t link this exact one, they have some amazing tops for summer and tons that are very similar.

Brown/Rose Gold: Target Strappy Heels- I fell in love with these the instant I saw them. They are a simple way to dress up any outfit. Mine, unfortunately, is not available anymore, but these ones are so cute and similar.

Recipe #2:

White: Striped Peplum Top– This is such the ‘mom look’. I love how comfy and cozy this top is, and the peplum adds extra detail (can you say date night look?!).

Jean: Universal Thread Jeans- These jeans are perfect for literally every single day. I like to cuff them at the bottom so they show off my shoes and my ankle. Claustrophobia tends to set in if the jeans are touching my foot (am I the only one?). AND they are high rise so they hide the ‘mom-tummy’.

Green: Comfy Vest- I love how relaxed and cozy this vest is. It definitely goes with just about anything.

Recipe #3:

Jean: Here is that jean jacket (linked above) styled a bit differently. It easily goes with so many things.

Brown: Target sandals (linked above)

Here I excluded the white and green, only because the t-shirt dress is such a staple piece, it didn’t need anything else to pull this outfit together. If you’d like to see how I styled this, check out the T-Shirt Dress Styling post!

Recipe #4:

White: Strappy Button-up Tank- This goes so well with just about anything and they have so many different colors. I would recommend sizing up a size.

Green: Paper Bag Shorts- These are my new favorite pair of shorts. These ones are no longer available, but I found an even better style for you.

Brown: Target strappy sandals (linked above) and my chunky oversized cardigan (this one is last season, so I linked a similar one).

Recipe #5:

White: Pleated Blouse- The perfect staple piece for every season and easily swapped out with many of these outfits.

Jean: Universal Thread high-waisted jeans- Such an easy item to throw together with a tank, sweater, or tee (linked above).

Rose Gold: Strappy Sandal- I am all for easy shoes to throw on for school drop-off, and these slip on so easily.

Recipe #6:

White: Slip-on Converse- These will forever be in my wardrobe. And when they start to die on me (these are starting to tear), I will replace them, no matter what.

Jean: Universal Thread jeans- These are so versatile.

Green: Hooded Tank- This looks so cute with a jean jacket and some black leggings too.

*Decided to forgo any brown and add a pop of color with a mustard yellow cardigan instead.
