Looking for ways to see your progress besides stepping on the scale and being vulnerable? Have you continued to see that number go up and down and feel completely worthless by what you see? These 5 non-scale victories are sure to make you feel incredible without involving that piece of equipment we try so hard to avoid.

Scale with a measuring tape

During my 75 Hard Challenge, I hit highs and many lows. One of the biggest breakthroughs was no longer feeling the need or desire to weigh myself. Instead, I found incredible ways to see those victories without needing the scale. I would love to know what you see as a non-scale victory, so make sure to comment down below.

1. Clothes fitting looser & progress photos

I believe the number one way to see changes in your physic, is by what you see in the mirror, in photos, and in measurements. A lot of programs ask you to take before meaurements because they know it is a surefire way to notice and see the progress you are making.

I know for myself, looking at photos of myself and actually SEEING a difference means more to me than stepping on the scale and feeling negative towards all the hard work I’ve been doing. One of the rules for 75 Hard Challenge is taking a progress photo every single day. At first I didn’t understand how you can see changes everyday. But now that I am done with the challenge, it makes so much sense to me. It’s not only about creating a habit and instilling repetitiveness, but you can look back at your early days and really see how far you have come.

If you don’t take progress photos or measurements, get on it! And when my clothes are fitting looser each time I put them on, that keeps me going even harder because I feel so much better!

2. How you feel after you complete an activity

Not sure about you, but one of the most motivating ways would have to be not feeling winded or tired after chasing my kids at the park, or being able to walk longer with walks or jogging further. Usually, a nap would be in order after I completed an exercise. Getting up and running with my kids at the park never happened. I always sat at the table, on my phone, wishing I could be out there with them but not being able to physically. Being able to have energy AFTER completing a workout is such an amazing non-scale victory.

3. Better Sleep & more energy (and better libido)

Can we please give energy a second all to itself?! Going from having to take a nap everyday because I just couldn’t get up to being able to get two workouts in during the day is such an incredible leap. And ladies, can we just talk about having more libido? That is worth it all by itself! If you know, you know. And I’m sure your significant other will thank you later.

Being able to keep up with your kids, get active every day, or even just go up the stairs without huffing and puffing is way better then seeing a number o nthe scale, am I right?! Being able to gauge exactly how much energy you have during the day is one of the biggest non-scale victories out there!

Another part of this is having less stress and anxiety. I will be sharing more about this later, but since completing my challenge and feeling much better, I’m happy to report I am no longer dependent on my anti-depressant medication! You can read more about my journey with anxiety, here.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor so if this is something you are looking to do, please discuss it with a medical professional first before attempting to come off of any medication.

4. More reps & heavier sets

Weights have become a big part of my routine. It’s the time of day that my husband and I connect and bond over something that doesn’t involve the kiddos. We are able to get in the gym and focus on ourselves and our needs. Being able to continue to put more weight on, do more reps and feel stronger is huge!

Do you lift? Is it something you are interested in learning more about? My girl Melissa has some absolutely incredible programs if you do not know where to start. Head over to her sire and tell her I sent you!

There are so many incredible resources on weights and lifting, but here are a few of my favorite accounts that focus on it:

5. Accomplishing Things You never thought you would

Never in a million years did I ever think running a half marathon, or even just running was a possibility! I have started setting health goals for myself that I never thought I’d ever dream of doing in a million years. Do you have goals for yourself that you are finally feeling could really happen? Some of them here are:

  • Running a marathon
  • Hiking a huge mountain
  • Wearing an outfit you have always been self-conscious in

Giving yourself goals and working toward them is so important! I would love to know, down below what your goals are! Are you working towards a marathon? Maybe you want to become a Gym Shark athlete. Whatever it may be, your goals are important but don’t forget to put them into action so they can become reality instead of just a beautiful dream.
