Mom Crafts

These crafts turned out so good, and I really enjoyed finding the ideas on Pinterest, shopping for the items, and then putting them into action. I look for DIY projects that I will end up using again, and not get bored of and end up tossing. I really enjoyed making the book stacks and the painted pumpkins. Definitely the ones I will use year after year. Which one is your favorite?

Fall-Inspired Book Stack

I had seen these advertised everywhere and had always wanted one. But they were a bit on the pricey side. Now I know how to whip up a stack if I ever want a new set!

Items Needed

  • Hardback Books- the amount varies with how many words you want
  • Paint
  • Ribbon
  • Letter Stencils- make sure they are the size of the spine
  • Thin sharpie/marker
  • Sandpaper (optional)
  1. Start by taking off the cover of the book, if it has one. I chose ones with a lighter colored cover so it would be easier to cover up with the paint. If yours has the title on the spine, take some of your chosen paint and cover those letters up. You want the least amount of color showing through. Mine had bright blue letters so I made sure to really cover that.
  2. Once dry, take your sandpaper, if you choose to use it, and sand down that paint so it’s smooth. This is key for the letters we will be adding to go on smoothly.
  3. Now, take a deep breath because this next part was really hard for my mom. Take the paint you chose and paint the whole cover, ends and spine too. I only did one coat because I love the way it looked, all destressed and such. Open the book and lay it down to dry.
  4. Once dry, take your stencil and your thin sharpie or marker, and go back down the spine. I started on the far right side, all the way at the end. This way you are guaranteed enough space and you won’t be worried about making the letters squish together. This can be tricky, but I love the imperfections that came of this process. If you’d prefer to use a stamp or vinyl, go right on ahead!
  5. Finally, stack them one right on top of each other and wrap your ribbon around the opposite end that you wrote the letters. You can use twine, ribbon, embellishments, whatever you love will be perfect. And you are done! A very easy fall-inspired DIY that you can make for any season.

  1. I love book stacks. Those are my favorite. I have some in my home right now. They all say the same thing, but you have given me the idea to paint them differently.
